Day 28 of our World cruise.  January 31, 2025.

Today we were supposed to be anchored off shore of the Falkland Islands and be tendered to the shore by a smaller boat as our ship is too big for this port. However, due to weather (high seas, wind, and rain) the Captain had to cancel the stop at this port, for safety reasons.

We were up, had breakfast, and were at our disembarking area at 7:45 when the Captain made the announcement.  We were scheduled for a 4x4 excursion to Volunteer Point, but quite frankly, due to the crappy weather, we’re kinda glad it was canceled.

Excursion costs will be refunded and we are headed to the next port in Ushuaia, Argentina.  The very southern tip of South America and the most southern city in the world. We will be getting information on our itinerary change later today.  We’re thinking it will add another stop at another port or an extra day at another port.

Here is our position today.  Yes, that land mass on the south part of the photo is Antarctica.  The Antarctic Circle is just into that land mass.  Temperatures have dropped to highs of 55 degrees and lows of 45 degrees.  Thank goodness it’s summer down here.

Day 27 of our World cruise.  January 30, 2025.

Our position today:

We left Puerto Madryn, Argentina last night and are on our way to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands.

Today we slept in a little, then had a light breakfast.  We went to a presentation in the theater about the world and how it is divided up in lines of latitude and longitude.  The equator, Tropic of Cancer, and Tropic of Capricorn.  Also the Prime meridian and International Dateline and their locations.  During our cruise we will cross the equator a total of four times. We already crossed it once as we were heading south after exiting the Mediterranean Sea.  We will cross it again after leaving western Australia and heading north to the Maldives, which are just south of India.  Then we will again cross it soon after leaving the Maldives when heading south to go around South Africa.  We will cross it for the fourth time as we head north along the west side of Africa on our way back to the Mediterranean Sea.  That final crossing of the equator will be very special.  We will cross the equator at the prime meridian.  The prime meridian is just the opposite of the international dateline and runs through Greenwich, England.  It is 0 degrees East or West, and the equator is 0 degrees North or South. Basically the center of our planet, measurement wise.  I’m sure there will be another big celebration for that crossing.

We walked ashore this morning and took a stroll along the beach.

Day 25 of our World cruise.  January 28, 2025

Today is our second of two sea days as we head south along the Argentina coastline.  Tomorrow we will dock in Puerto Madryn,  our second city to visit in Argentina.

We had a very relaxing day today.  As we head south, the weather is definitely cooling off.  Our high today barely hit 70 degrees, although nice and sunny. Way different from the high 80’s and 90’s we’ve been experiencing.

Today we did some reading and card playing.  We also were spectators in our friends Blackjack tournament.

This ship has a full casino on board.  We don’t go in much as we don’t gamble at all, but it was fun to watch.

Today is the Chinese New Year.  The year of the snake.

Day 24 of our World cruise.  January 27, 2025

Today is the first of 2 days at sea as we travel south down the east coast of South America.

We had another competition of World Games this morning.  It was a golf shot.  You putted a golf ball across about 50 feet of deck and into paper cups that were on their sides taped to the deck.  Problem was, the ball had to stay in the cup and not bounce backwards out.

Kinda fun, but our Fire team did not do well.

Here are some pics of our departure from Buenas Aires last night.

Suzanne and Connie Jo found a quiet place to redo their nails.

Here’s a short cool video from in town yesterday.

Our position today in port in Buenas Aires, Argentina.

Today we went ashore on our own.  We walked into the City center and took in the sights, did a little shopping, and got on a Hop on, Hop off bus around town.

Here are some pics:
